“I Don’t Want to Join a Gym”

“I Don’t Want to Join a Gym”

Gym’s can be crowded, full of sweaty people, and worst of all…they make you exercise! I hear it all the time. “I don’t have time to exercise”, or “I don’t have the money for a gym membership”. You may think that if you start going, then people will judge you for being out of shape. I would love to show you the other side of the fitness world.

While they can be crowded with sweaty people, you’ll also notice another thing. Everyone is happy. There are all types of people at the gym, including those who haven’t missed workout since Reagan was president but there’s also those who just started yesterday! A gym shouldn’t be a scary place, yet the reasons for not going oftentimes come from a place of fear. Whether that be fear of not paying the bills, fear of being judged by others, fear of not knowing where to start, or fear of failing if you do start. These fears are perfectly normal and I can assure you that nearly everyone had them before they joined.

Let the fear go and take action! The world is changing as more and more people are getting into fitness. Gyms are popping up on every corner. There’s never been a better time to start. As with anything else you qualify as “necessary” in your life, you will find time if you find it valuable. We make time to spend with family, go shopping, watch TV, etc. Why not simply make time to work on yourself?

I’ve heard it said that laughter is the best medicine. If that’s true, then exercise is a miracle drug. Nothing else in the world can improve your life like exercise. It can improve your mood, improve your social connections, improve your sleep, improve your sex, blood pressure, blood sugar, cholesterol, reduce risk of cancer and heart disease, and is an almost guaranteed way of living longer and happier.

So yes, its hard work going to the gym and being consistent with your exercise. But I would also urge you to start now if you haven’t already because truly, you don’t know what you’re missing. It’s the most important thing you can do to improve your overall health, so don’t put it off!

I hope to see you there!
